Pattern Diploid Sporophyte Represented Dominant Independent Photosynthetic Vascular

The diploid sporophyte is the dominant, independent, photosynthetic, and vascular phase of the plant, alternating with a multicellular, saprophytic/autotrophic, independent but short-lived haploid gametophyte. This pattern, known as haplo-diplontic, is exhibited by all pteridophytes.
