The terminal broad part of a bone is the epiphysis, and the middle part is the diaphysis (shaft); the epiphysis contains most spongy bone with red marrow, while the diaphysis has a central cavity with yellow marrow.

Mitte: Diaphyse/Schaft. Epiphyse enthält den meisten Spongiosa, der rote Knochenmark in seinen Räumen enthält. Diaphyse hat einen zentralen Hohlraum (Lumen), der mit gelbem Knochenmark gefüllt ist.
