Fat absorption in the small intestine occurs when micelles deliver contents to epithelial cells via simple diffusion; inside cells, fats are reassembled into chylomicrons and released into lacteals by exocytosis.

Back | • When a micelle comes into contact with the epithelial cells of small intestine, the contents pass by means of *simple diffusion* into the cell • Inside the cell, glycerol and fatty acids are recombined into fats and packaged into chylomicrons. • The chylomicrons are transported by exocytosis into lacteals. |
