Back | - if cut, pathogens can enter, blood clots quickly to seal wound, when platelets reach damaged blood vessel/collagen in skin, they adhere and secrete substances like thomboplastin (enzyme triggering cascade of reactions resulting in blood clot) and serotonin (makes smooth muscle contract in wall, which narrows and dec supply of blood to area - clot dries out, forming hard scab (keep pathogens out), epidermal cells below scab start to grow, sealing wound permenantly while damaged blood vessel grows, collagen deposited to inc tissue strength, once new epidermis reaches normal thickness, scab falls and wound heals |
