When an action potential reaches the neuromuscular junction, it causes Ca2+ release and acetylcholine binding to sarcolemma receptors, opening Na+ channels and causing depolarization. Acetylcholine is broken down to prevent overstimulation.

Cuando un potencial de acción llega a la unión neuromuscular, provoca la liberación de Ca2+ y la unión de acetilcolina a los receptores del sarcolema, abriendo canales de Na+ y causando despolarización. La acetilcolina se descompone para evitar la sobreestimulación muscular.
