Freezing Plant Responses Abiotic Stress  Preventing Dec Temp

Plant cells can freeze, damaging their membranes and causing death. To prevent this, the cytoplasm and sap in vacuoles produce solutes that lower the freezing point, while certain amino acids, polysaccharides, sugars, and proteins act as antifreeze. Some species only produce these frost-resistant chemicals in winter, in response to changes in temperature and day length.

Les cellules végétales peuvent geler, endommager leurs membranes et causer leur mort. Pour prévenir cela, le cytoplasme et la sève des vacuoles produisent des solutés qui abaissent le point de congélation, tandis que certains acides aminés, polysaccharides, sucres et protéines agissent comme antigel. Certaines espèces ne produisent ces substances résistantes au gel qu'en hiver, en réponse à des changements de température et de durée du jour.
