Front | what happens once AP reaches SPR? |
---|---|
Back | stimulates opening of Ca2+ channels, so Ca2+ diffuses into sarcoplasm, it binds to troponin (changes shape), and pulls on tropomyosin, detaching it from binding site, now myosin heads bind to form actin-myosin cross-bridges, head flexes and moves actin filament along, then ADP in myosin head binding site removed and ATP binds (causing head to detach), Ca2+ activates ATPase activity, so ATP hydrolysed to release energy and change head back to original shape, then binds further along actin filament and process continues as long as muscle stimulated, causes contraction |
