Heart Rate Centres Receptors Blood Controlling Sending Impulses

Front controlling heart rate, what centres are involved and how are these centres stimulated?
Back
  • heart rate controlled by ANS
  • medulla responsible for controlling heart rate (has 2 centres linked by motor neurones to SAN)
    • one increases heart rate by sending impulses through sympathetic NS (transmitted by accelerator nerve)
    • one decrease heart rate by sending impulses through parasympathetic NS (transmitted by vagus nerve)
    • centre stimulated depends on info recieved by receptors in blood vessels;
      • baroreceptors (pressure receptors detecting changes in blood pressure (e.g if too low, need to inc heart rate) present in aorta, vena cava and carotid arteries)
      • chemoreceptors (chemical receptors detecting changes in levels of particular chemicals in blood (e.g CO2), present in aorta, carotid arteries (major artery in neck supplying brain with blood) and medulla)
