K+ Na+ Resting Creating Pot Actively Transported Leads

Resting potential (-70mV) is established by the Na+/K+ pump moving 3 Na+ out for every 2 K+ in, creating concentration gradients. K+ diffusion outward contributes to the polarized state.

- 3 Na+ actively transported out, 2 K+ actively transported in by Na/K pump (instrinsic protein), leads to accumalation of Na+ outside membrane and K+ inside, Na+ diffuse down electrochemical gradient (conc gradient for ions) and K+ diffuses out, gated Na+ channels closed (Na+ cant move) but K+ channels open and so K+ diffuses out and leads to lots of positive ions outside than inside (creates resting pot of -70mV)
