Front | What three ways can blood glucose concentrations increase? |
---|---|
Back | 1. Diet - Foods that contain carbohydrates are broken down to release glucose, which is absorbed into the bloodstream, causing blood glucose concentration to rise. 2. Glycogenosis - Glycogen stored in the liver and muscle cells is broken down into glucose, which is released into the bloodstream, increasing blood glucose concentrations. 3. Gluconeogenesis - The production of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources e.g. making glucose from glycerol (lipids). It is released into the bloodstream, thus increasing blood glucose concentration. |
