Batch Phase Microorganisms Growth Products Describe Fermentation Inoculated

Batch fermentation involves inoculating microorganisms into a fixed volume of medium, where they grow to the stationary phase, producing the desired product before the process is stopped, the product harvested, and the culture restarted.

La fermentación en lote consiste en inocular microorganismos en un volumen fijo de medio, donde crecen hasta la fase estacionaria, produciendo el producto deseado antes de que el proceso se detenga, se coseche el producto y se reinicie el cultivo.

Front Describe batch fermentation.
Back Batch fermentation:
  • Microorganisms inoculated into fixed volume of medium
  • As growth takes place, nutrients used up and new biomass and waste products build up
  • As stationary phase reached, overall growth is 0 but during this phase microorganisms carry out biochemial changes to form desired end product
  • Process is stopped before death phase, products harvested, whole system cleaned and sterilised, new batch culture started up
