Role of extracellular enzymes:- Reactions in cells require raw materials to make products required by organisms which have to be constantly supplied to cells
- Nutrients present in diet/environment are the supply for the raw materials
- Nutrients are often in the form of polymers (proteins and polysaccharides) that cant enter cells directly
- Extracellular enzymes are used to digest them into smaller molecules so that they can be absorbed and used by cells
