Cells Extracellular Role Enzymes Raw Materials Nutrients Explain

Front Explain the role of extracellular enzymes in general.
Back Role of extracellular enzymes:
  • Reactions in cells require raw materials to make products required by organisms which have to be constantly supplied to cells
  • Nutrients present in diet/environment are the supply for the raw materials
  • Nutrients are often in the form of polymers (proteins and polysaccharides) that cant enter cells directly
  • Extracellular enzymes are used to digest them into smaller molecules so that they can be absorbed and used by cells
