Dialysis Blood Machine Membranes Conc Urea Haemodyalsis Involves

Front Haemodyalsis
Back
  • involves dialysis machine, blood leaves patients artery and into dialysis machine, where it flows between partially permeable dialysis membranes (that mimic basement membrane, impermeable to blood cells and LPP) and outside membranes are dialysis fluid (which is countercuurent to blood flow to maintain steep conc gradient, contains normal plasma levels of gluocse, sugars, mineral ions (for electrolyte balance) and all useful substances, so only XS removed, and has no urea so all urea diffuses out)
  • everything passive (down conc gradients)
